Hazard Identification & Risk Assessments (HIRA)

Effective OHS risk management is one of any organisation's most important OHS compliance objectives. One of our OHS practitioners will conduct an on-site OHS risk assessment of your premises, with the aim of identifying and highlighting all the individual hazards and their risk ranking. We will then provide a comprehensive written and photographic report, which must be used by management to develop an appropriate risk management plan, aimed at eliminating or mitigating each risk and in so doing create a health, safe, prepared and compliant working environment. This OHS risk assessment must ideally be conducted annually.

Risk & Opportunity Assessments

Risks affecting organizations can have consequences in terms of economic performance and professional reputation as well as Environmental, Safety and societal outcomes. Therefore, managing risks effectively helps organizations to perform well in an uncertain environment. At SixD, we will guide your organisation by making use of ISO 31000:2018 Risk Management – Guidelines to help your organization increase its likelihood of achieving objectives, improving the identification of opportunities and threats and effectively allocating and using resources for risk treatment.

Systems Gap Analysis Audit

The identification of SHERQ Management systems shortcomings forms an integral part of aligning your Management System with the requirements of the specific standard being applied. (ISO 9001, ISO 45001, CMB253). SixD Consulting will assist your organisation with an independent Systems Gap Analysis Audit to identify potential non-conformances and findings and provide your organisation with a clear report to meet compliance objectives.

System Gap Analysis

Internal Audits, Legal compliance audits & Registers

Are you compliant with legislation and its requirements? Our SHERQ Practitioners can conduct Legal Compliance Audits, which provide a comprehensive assessment of all your SHERQ documentation, structures, equipment and organisational workspace. We will then provide a report which indicates the organisation's SHERQ compliance rating and percentage, all the compliant and non-compliant areas, and which Legislation and Regulations, municipal emergency services by-law, or local legislation is being contravened. This report can then be utilized to plan and improve the organisation's SHERQ position and compliance rating. SixD partners with leading legal experts and facilitates the compilation of legal registers to ensure that your organization is aligned with applicable legislation to ensure compliance.

Development of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Policies & Procedures

We can assist with the planning, development, and facilitation of implementation of your specific SHERQ-related Policies and Procedures to meet the system requirements. To have well-developed Policies and Procedures, your organisation will mitigate cost related to unnecessary time spent on tasks that you don’t need, resources or systems that needs a change in approach.

Assistance with monitoring of how well the system requirements are implemented to ensure compliance, manage Non-Conformances in order to close gaps in the systems in order to provide management with correct information to make strategic decisions to meet the business goals and objectives.

Development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) & Written Standard Work Instructions (WSWI’s)

We understand that no two organisations are the same, and therefore, the development of generic systems is not effective in managing your actual risk.

An SOP is a procedure specific to your operation that describes the activities necessary to complete tasks in accordance with industry regulations, provincial laws or even just your own standards for running your business. Any document that is a “how to” falls into the category of procedures. SOPs play an important role in your business that may impact your overall performance. These can create:

The customised WSWI explains how to carry out the procedure. This a step-by-step guideline to perform and assist your workers to focus on the actual work. The reason for w WSWI is to provide specific instructions, details and information needed to perform a specific task or related to specific equipment, etc.

  • efficiencies, and therefore profitability

  • consistency and reliability in production and service

  • fewer errors in all areas

  • a way to resolve conflicts between partners

  • a healthy and safe environment

  • protection of employers in areas of potential liability and personnel matters

  • a roadmap for how to resolve issues – and the removal of emotion from troubleshooting – allowing needed focus on solving the problem

  • a first line of defence in any inspection, whether it be by a regulatory body, a partner or potential partner, a client, or a firm conducting due diligence for a possible purchase

Advisory services for system certification

In order to be certified by an independent and competent agency, an organisation needs to conduct internal system audits as well as prepare for external certification. We can assist you with internal as well as preparation for external certification to ensure with justified confidence, based on the evidence presented, that your management system is functioning well and that your organisation complies with relevant and applicable requirements.

A system verification audit is a routine sampling process performed by either internal employees or an external third-party auditor. The goal of audits is to ensure that your business is following the system requirements.

Advisory Services
  • Internal Audit - This type of audit assesses your organization’s performance and implementation of its Quality Management System (QMS). An internal auditor is usually one or more employees within the company who have been thoroughly trained on ISO 9001 standards.

  • External Audit - An external audit is similar to an internal audit; the main difference is that the auditor will come from a third-party source outside of the organization, usually from a registrar. The external audit is usually the official audit that determines your company’s system certification.

Integration & Customization of ISO or SHERQ Management Systems

In today’s competitive business environment, streamlining operations is essential in keeping overhead costs low. An integrated management system (IMS) combines all related components of a business into one unified system for easier management and operations.

Thus the different systems do not operate in silos separate from each other but rather one management system.

  • Less conflict

  • Save cost

  • Meet all your goals and objectives at once

  • Reduce duplication

  • Reduce audit fatigue

Annex SL is the document that defines the high-level structure for all ISO management systems standards. Annex SL is designed to better facilitate the use of integrated management systems, providing organizations with the tools they need to streamline current protocol, encourage standardization and transform existing management systems into an integrated model.

The common structure has been introduced in the latest ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards, and will also be used in ISO 45001 (the replacement of OHSAS 18001). This will make the standards more compatible and enable more effective integration. Aside from the other benefits of consolidation, adopting integrated management systems now will ease the transition into this mode.

  • E-mail enabled

  • Easy to use

  • Assist with strategic planning

  • Minimise business risk

Emergency Preparedness & Response, Evacuation Plans

National and International Legislation, municipal emergency services by-laws and the SANS 10400, National Building Regulations, require organizations' premises to comply with certain OHS and emergency preparedness requirements. We will send one of our OHS practitioners to assess your working environment to ensure that it contains the correct emergency and OHS equipment for the OHS teams to utilize during an emergency. The OHS equipment assessment only lists the equipment items required and their costs.

Organizations must conduct bi-annual evacuation drills for the entire workforce to practice for the unfortunate occurrence of a possible emergency or disaster. SixD can send a team of OHS specialists to your organization who can assist with staging an emergency scenario and conducting the evacuation drill. A written and photographic report is then generated listing all the conformances (positives) and non-conformances (negatives) and suggested requirements to be implemented to improve the evacuation process and the next evacuation drill.

Occupational & Environmental Monitoring & Surveys

There are a number of health issues associated with poorly designed spaces that are easily avoided when spaces are properly considered and designed. High-quality indoor environments vary, from the specification of products with a low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) content to providing adequate daylight and natural ventilation. To reduce Occupational Exposure to potentially hazardous working environments, it is not only necessary but also a legal requirement to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and safety Regulations by conducting the required Occupational and Environmental Surveys to determine potential exposure to hazardous conditions.
